Apollo and Persephone Grace Romance Sprites
Romance sprite roughs featuring Apollo and Persephone with Grace for Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical. The majority of these sprites are from "romance" dialogue while there are a few that are part of compulsory events in the story.
We wanted romance moments to not only reflect the unique kind of relationships Grace could have, but to also feel rewarding to the player choosing to commit themselves to that character.
These roughs were all done by me under the the art direction of our AD Benjamin Ee. I did "roughs" of every sprite based on storyboards, which would then get inked and rendered by a different artist. Rough sprites were highly detailed so the inking artists and Cinematic team could get an understanding of the characters' expressions early on.

A big advantage of hand drawing each romance scene was having complete control over how Grace interacted with her romantic interest and all the emotional nuances involved.
We wanted each romance path to feel distinctive but also fair in terms of how the player gets to interact with one romantic interest versus another whilst still respecting the characters' personality types.
